[quote:f27f59ff61]Stress is certainly one of the contributing factors of GI ulcers. The
presence of an opportunistic bacteria does not make it a cause.
Stress and certain foods damage the GI tracts ability to defend
itself. Sure antibiotics work, but so do certain non-antibiotic
herbs. I speak from experience. Mallow, for example.

The whole this bacteria causes ulcers shows a real poverty of
philosophical understanding. Adn the reason this way of looking at
causes caught on is because it 1) seems like a magic bullet, no need
to change your lifestyle or diet 2) it makes certain people vastly
more money if it is treated as something caused by an infection.
like poor people dont have stress? They dont have ulcers. They live in[/quote:f27f59ff61]
the same small rural villages all their lives, barely surviving on
inadequate diets, but they dont get exposed to the myriads of
contagious bacteria present in the modern urban environment either.
And changing to fixing cars for a living, while certainly less
stressful, didnt cure my ulcers.

You know anything at all about group think? and if so, can you provide
any data at all to show that it has not had a powerful effect on
professional psychology? I dont preclude herbs, and indeed, find usnea
quite useful. But psychotherapy? Useful for personal insight, but
useless in ulcers. In like manner, obsessive compulsives were on the
couch for years, not getting anywhere. then somebody was put on an
arthritus med, and that problem went away.

The biochemistry of mental pathology is opening up a whole new can of
worms that behaviorists dont want to look at. We see allergies and
asthma as a result of homeopathic levels of exposure to modern
contaminants the hominids were never evolved to, Why would we assume
that reactions to dietary deficit and contamination would only have
physical effects and not psychological?

One reason is Christian dogma, which because of "free will" can only
accept physiological effects on hominids. I changed both my lifestyle,
and my diet, and ulcers damn near killed me. I'm not buying it. But
I'm sure your associates will approve of your defense of their
mindframe.
