I understand that moving Halbach arrays over a conductive loop will
generate a current in the loop, which will in turn create an opposing
magnetic field. The only requirement for levitation is that the vehicle
must already be moving at a few kilometers per hour (roughly the same
as walking speed) to keep levitating.

Over the last couple of months I've constructed a repeating pattern of
closed loops attached to the perimeter of an alluminum bicycle wheel
then suspended a 5 nib Halbach array magnet independent of the wheel. I
have found that levitation is not achieved at any speed. I also
constructed a spinning copper disk made from a continues loop of
magnetic copper wire to no avail.

I've read all that I could find on Maglev to find nothing specific
enough to prototype. At this point I feel that I must be over looking
some crucial element(s). Can anyone assist me in the basic principles
involved? Or direct me in an activity/project that demonstrates these
pricipals. Please note that I'm not overly interested in stable
levitation. Levitation alone will do the trick at this time. If anyone
can interprate Maxwells equations in laymans terms that alone would
help me a great deal.

Thanks

What I don't know I will find, what I know I will share.

you need to stop reading and start googling... google me this:

some of the thousands of links that look interesting:
