Please excuse my ignorance here.

What exactly is it on MIGs with Spot Weld timers?

Is it just a setable feed/current time & you plug weld or do you replace
the Tip with a copper point, push hard and hit the trigger?

TIA

Certainly on my BOC Autolynx it is a predetermined time to plug weld
with the usual wire

Yes it is simply a way to standardize welds using the existing gun setup.

I have discovered that a spot/stitch timer can be used as a basic pulser
for MIG welding thin materiel.

Thanks guys.
Is it worth having for a hobby welder or saving a few quid (bucks) and not
having it?
I've done manual plug welds with no problems, although it could stop me
being over eager on stitch welds & distorting panels Wink

My MIG welder has a spot weld timer but I never use it. I find it easy

enough to watch the weld and time it manually on those occasions that I
have used it for plug welding on car body work or similar.

Triffik, I like answers like that Very Happy Sounds like I'd be better saving a few
quid.
I need a nice portable MIG ie liftable down a couple of steps so I'm
looking at a few options & wondered if a spot weld timer was worth having.
