8.Informal. Used as an intensifier when joined by and to a coordinate verb: She went
and complained to Personnel.
They mention ``coodinate verb,'' is my interest.

Likewise "Now you've gone and done it!"

Maybe it's the past tense of ``going to.''
The comma indicates an inversion : My interest is : they mention ``coordinate verb.''

You're right, it is common.
However "He went and did it" can never (in my dialect) be used as an
alternative to "He went to do it", but only as in
"I told him it'd get him into trouble, but he went and did it anyway."
OTOH. "I'll go and do it" can be used to replace "I'll go to do it." with no
change in meaning.
