If you don't allow Active X controls to take over your computer, you see nothing
but a black screen.

Dump Active X BS.

I'm far from expert on such matters, but I don't think ActiveX is

required at all: the presentation ran just fine here, on a Macintosh
running Netscape 4. AFAICT ActiveX is for Windows only.

(Thanks for the link, Wally!)

I have Active X blocked on my machine, and when I went to that site I got the
system message, "You have disallowed Active X controls page will not display
right".

and all I got was a black screen, so for pc users they have active x programmed
into it. I have all such controls, .scr, .exe, all that is disablied.

I used flash one time to try it out, then deleted it from my system and will
never put it back on. My old Atari TT030 has better such programs.

I use my machine for a lot of projects, and after what happened in 2001, I do
not allow anything on this machine that I can not control. This goes for active
x, flash, etc. even my e-mail is set up to totaly destroy any attachments that
come in with .scr/.exe on them. Plus all scripting is disabled too.

If I get my TT030 back online, then it'll be 100% safe from virus, worms, etc.

I got a virus, once and only once. My own fault. I wanted to see what
it did, and let it install on an isolated PC..

Flash is small, simple, reliable and quite universal. I never have
encountered any problems with it, not did it affect any of my systems in a
negative way.

As a browser plugin for viewing Internet graphics of a specific kind it's
totally incomparable with outdated or historical Atari software.

It's like saying "I once tried out a toaster but threw it away. My old
bathtub had better functionality."

In 2001, someone sent me an e-mail, the return address was a company name, it
was suppost to a notice of new telescopes. So I opened it, and nortons didn't
even catch the 3, yes I said 3 virus that where attached to the message. Not
only did it wipe out the DIR of the hard drive, it changed the ownership
settings and then locked up the computer, all in .5 sec.

I lost over 2 ga's of graphics of flowers, rockets, etc., lost back up copies of
newsletters I write and just to many other things to list. All I could do was to
use a system restore disk (CD ROM) that formatted the hard drive and
re-installed programs, a total of 5 hours.

So, since then I have made changes to this system, dumped nortons for another
atv program, and have taken steps to safeguard the system. This means any
attachments are deleted, unless they are a zip file. Not only incomeing, but out
going mail, postings are scanned for virus.

I have and still do back up my writings, membership lists, everything I need, on
floopys and transfer the files to my Atari TT030.

It's also an optional extra, and like frames and Javascript it's
considered polite to give visitors a choice as to whether they want to
use it.
Sometimes it's essential to the content of a site, but one that starts
with a big compulsory introduction isn't going see me!
