I go to an amateur permanent observatory site with three domes. The
buildings are not heated and it seems to be very hard on the PCs used for
star maps and digital images. Summer days over 90, winter nights below
freezing. Which leads me to my questions:

1) Which is more tolerant of temperature extremes - an old fashioned CRT or
an LCD panel?

2) The purists claim the CRT and PC chassis through off too much heat and
create air distortions. Does this sound plausible to you? Would changing
to a panel help?

I think that if this is such a big deal, the chassis should be placed in an
insulated cupboard rather than on a cart and just use longer cables to
connect.

Any comments?
