Fruitcake -- the sequel
Editor -- We, the Society for the Truth about Fruitcake, wish to protest Justin
McCarter's letter (""In defense of the fruitcake,'' Nov. 22), in which he
tries, one more time, to defend the indefensible. Anyone who knows McCarter and
the so-called Fruitcake Lovers of Northern California, knows that they are an
industry coalition to promote the "responsible" use of fruitcake.
To further their agenda, they portray a fantasy world where all fruitcakes have
proven benefits, all side effects are manageable, and few fruitcakes are poorly
made. They overlook important scientific research, present hypotheses as facts
and rely on weak studies to justify unusual uses for fruitcake.
One of the important things they refuse to discuss is the nature of those
inedible little green things that every fruitcake contains. It is our belief
that they are, in fact, the main ingredient in the weapons of mass distraction
that cause people who eat fruitcake to break out in bad gospel songs and force
others to listen to them.
Don t you see what a threat this is? My friends: Do not believe Justin
McCarter's lies! Do not consume these fruitcakes! We call upon each and every
one of you to join us! Remember, fruitcake is our enemy.
