Study says breast cancer changes with spread
Wed, 04 Nov 2009 16:26:35 GMT
A new study finds that nearly 40 percent of breast cancer
tumors change form when they spread, urging physicians to
change their prescriptions.
Previous studies had reported that breast cancers spreading
through lymph nodes, the type accounting for a considerable
number of tumors, are difficult to be treated.
According to the study published in the Annals of Oncology,
these tumors change in a high percentage of patients and in
different ways when they spread, indicating that previously
used medication may become ineffective in many cases.
The study showed many tumors changed from estrogen receptor
(ER) negative to ER positive, adding that tamoxifen which
was ineffective in the primary stage was able to treat the
disease in later stages.
Those whose tumors changed from ER positive to ER negative,
on the other hand, experienced side effects when continuing
their previous regimen.
Scientists therefore urged physicians to monitor their
patients for any changes in the type of their tumors in
order to make necessary changes in their treatment regime.

A government, of Israel, by Israel, and, for: Israel.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light:
for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
and Christ shall give thee light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. |
