everything that went terribly bad took place long before Christ even
got potty trained. Those ice-age cave dwelling folks didn't have such
silly problems, perhaps because they were too busy trying to keep warm
and otherwise surviving from everything else that was continually
trying to eat them alive (remember that there was also no significant
seasonal tilt or moonlight, so every freaking nighttime was seriously
dark and scary).

Besides all the modern times of nasty folks doing onto others whatever
they can manage to get away with, perhaps Vikings seem past-due for

Early humans were actually far better evolved and having adapted to
their surviving in spite of all the natural and unnatural odds against
us. Nowadays we’re nearly a helpless species that wouldn’t last out
