Ares works, he'll go on record as the Prez who was finally able to get
NASA to get a Post shuttle rocket off the pad!

It does? We've had one flight of a version that's not even really close to
the actual design.

We're a long ways from saying Ares works.

By a very loose definition of "works". The video indicates that the stage
separation wasn't clean or there was recontact between the SRB and simulated
upper stage.

Shouldn't be a problem for the real McCoy if it has posigrade
seperation motors on the upper stage like Saturn.

Sourpuss. :-)

Ares 1X did not:
- Crash into the tower.
- Wobble out of control.
- Lose roll control.
- Shake itself into thousands of tiny, flaming pieces.
- Vertically Oscillate the avionics and range safety packages into
junk vaguely reminiscent of a Commodore Amiga that's been run over by
an 18-wheeler.

All these dire predictions were made by various Ares-bashers. I even
thought a few of them were likely myself at the height of I Hate Ares
mania.*

Okay, the stage seperation wasn't perfect. It doesn't really look like
recontact to me, but instead a not quite clean sep. That's a good
thing to learn now.

Brian

*But I still think we should just put Orion on a Delta IV-Heavy and
move on to Ares V-Lite.

Actually, do we know that one? I mean since it wasn't activated, it's
possible it did shake itself apart. :-)

Well, all it really was was a Shuttle solid with more control gear and some
thrusters, gyros etc in my view. The thing is, what was the ride like.
