I want to make
5/10
more important than
1/2
but if the denominator is 100, then it's easier to get 5 of it.
What's the function to make the difference? |

That is a pretty uninformative question.
If you want to know "what to do with different
numbers of votes" for a movie rating, so that
you don't put new movies at the top all the time,
you can look at the vote protocols for IMDB
(International Movie Data Base).
- First, they have a minimum-voter cutoff, for
some purposes.
- Second, they use a Bayesian-type moderation
for some other purposes -- where, effectively, the
observed score is "adjusted" by adding numbers
to the numerator and denominator that represent
an "overall average", in order to bias the score
toward the overall average.
If you have some other meaning, please elucidate.
