Maybe "Materials Science" is a real science that uses the word
"science." Maybe. But most physicists and chemists would consider it
to be engineering.

Then what is the 'science' of keeping some loser from being
re-elected? It took me two lawsuits to keep one from being re-elected,
after he committed fraud, and 'Conversion of Property' by stealing two
vehicles from my business parking lot. I got settlements in both
lawsuits, and the bad publicity kicked him out of the running for an
office he'd held for about 20 years.

Nobody gets a degree called "physical science." They get a gegree in
Physics or Chemistry or some such, from a department of the same name.
Apparently MIT has a "school of physical science", but the actual
disciplines are Physics etc.
The original quote, which wasn't mine, was somewhat facetious, mocking
things like political science and social science and library science,
the point being that real scientists don't use the word "science" in
their departments or degrees, but pseudo-scientists do.
Get grim and bitchy if it pleases you. I thought the original
observation was pretty powerful.
I design electronics, and what I do is called engineering.
