Geez, I gave up trying to read Usenet on Google Groups because you
can't filter out the spam (or at least I couldn't figure out how). I
had to set up my newsgroup reader program again so I could stand it.

Is it just me, or has spam increased significantly since Google took
over Usenet?

Dunno. I don't use it. Ever.[/quote]

Thanks for the clarification, Bob. I thought they bought it or the
rights to it. I see from Wikipedia that they only own the archive.

Still - lots more spam on Usenet these days, IMO.

LizzieB,

Are you referring to Google or Usenet with that comment?

Thanks,

Julie,

Yes, the bought deja-news' archive if I remember correctly.

SPAM and other garbage seems to come in waves on Usenet. It might be
high tide right now :-)

I remember Deja News. Not too bad an interface, but Google's is crap.

Also, for some reason, I don't get any of that spam in my client.

Yes, I also hate the Google interface.

Different newsgroups often get hit at different times with SPAM.
