After making the Kaiser appointment for my yearly mammogram, I decided
to remind all the women on SMT to do the same.

You might call this my health crusade since I've lost one sister to
breast cancer with a second one diagnosed with that disease earlier
this year.

I really would hate to hear of any of you not catching this detectable
cancer in time because you didn't get your mammogram.

Don't forget your self exams, either!

I put it off because I didn't relish the discomfort of a bewbie
squish. Trust me, ladies - it's nothing compared to the alternative!
(Lessee - bewbie squish or surgery.... bewbie squish or chemo...
bewbie squish or radiation... - see what I mean??)

I'll admit that I've been putting off The Inaugural Bewbie Squish for
three years now, but I have my appointment Oct 22nd.

LizzieB.

After six years of MT, I've caught a suspicious case of ennui.
This is how I've been amusing myself in my MT malaise:

It's really not that bad. I've heard people say they take Tylenol or
ibuprofen ahead of time and it makes it easier for them, but I've never
needed to.

Already got mine taken care of in July. I took part in a breast cancer
prevention research study and actually got paid for having all that stuff
done for a couple of years there!

Well, someone posted on the NG years ago on how to get ready for that
important date, and I will offer it to you:

THE MAMMOGRAM

This is an x-ray that has its own name because no one wants to actually
say the
word "breast." Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, and
even if they have had them before, there is fear. But there is no need
to worry. Mammograms require your breast to do gymnastics. If you have
extremely agile breasts, you should do fine. Most breasts, however,
pretty much hang around doing nothing in particular so they are woefully
unprepared. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the
exam and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally
prepared for the test, and best of all, you can do these simple practice
exercises right in your home.

Exercise 1: Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist.
Invite a stranger into the room. Have the stranger press the bookends
against either side of one of your breasts and smash the bookends
together as hard as he/she can. Repeat three times daily. Set an
appointment with the stranger to meet next year
to do it again.

Exercise 2: Locate a pasta maker or an old wringer washer. Feed the breast
into the machine and start cranking. Repeat twice daily.

Exercise 3: Open your refrigerator door, and insert one breast
between the door and the main box. Have one of your strongest friends
slam the
door shut as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure. Hold
that position for five seconds. Repeat in case the first time wasn't
effective.

Exercise 4 (Advanced): Visit your garage at 3 a.m. when the temperature
of the cement floor is just perfect. Take off all your clothes and lie
comfortably on the floor sideways with one breast wedged under the rear
tire of the car. Ask hubby or a friend to slowly back the car up until
your breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Hold for
five seconds. Switch sides, and repeat for the other breast.

You are now properly prepared!
