I was watching the news, and two anchors were discussing the bible. It
seems, according to them, that a conservative group of highly educated
people are going to "edit" the bible. Among other changes, they want
to change pronouns to gender neutral.

I'm only familiar with the King James version and then only from what
I learned in years of Sunday school. Here is a link to the article
about the other bible. Do any of you own this one, and what do you
think of this upcoming revision?

The bible has been changed so dang many times from the original that
to believe it is the "way" it originally was is a joke. I believe
there have been deletions about 148,000 times over the years.
Especially by certain religious groups. This is just more "crap".

Much of the NIV 'version' has already been changed to gender neutral forms.
This group, which is responsible for maintaining the NIV "version" (created
by right wing humans in 1978) is now proposing to change it again. Instead
of calling us 'children of God' they propose to revert to 'men of God' .
This 'version', was written in 1978 (31 years ago).

Yes, it's true. Needless to say, most of the other blogs are going
nuts satirizing them, errr.... giving them a "helping hand."

That has already been done.

I think that if the English language had nouns that had masculine and
feminine genders, as do Latin languages as well as others, there
wouldn't be so much of a stink about gender.

I have no problem with saying we are children of God rather than sons of
God, because that doesn't really change anything, but when they start
using gender-neutral pronouns to refer to Jesus Christ, I will draw the
line.

The original, of course, is not in English; and this includes the St.
James version.

My friend, a scholar, reads ancient greek, hebrew, aramaic and latin.

Every english version we have is a translation and, as the old saying
goes, To translate is to lie. The only way to truely know God's Word
is to learn to read it in the original.

This makes me wonder what language God spoke in!

Too bad there weren't tape recorder or something like YouTube back
then to catch the actual events.

Maybe, but there are scholars who have translated God's Word into
different languages and tried to remain as true to the original
languages as possible, and there are those who have tried to update it
to make it more modern or whatever and not put a priority on accuracy.

King James. He was no saint, by any definition.
