That is only a side effect. The interesting thing is (and it happened some time
ago), that OTHERS will show up who did not post before. THEY could easily within

example of why the fringies are wrong. Written by a Chicago area MD
the letter cites colonoscopy as a highly effective method for

This is in response to "Medical stats can cloud real risk
factors" (Smart, Jan. 11), which stated, "Clearly, a screening test
will not protect you from getting colon cancer. But because of early
detection, it might keep you from dying of the disease."
This is a false statement.
Colonoscopy screening allows doctors to identify polyps (precursors
to cancer) and remove them before they turn into cancer, therefore
preventing cancer from developing in the first place. Prevention
through colon-cancer screening is credited for the recent decline in
the incidence and death rates from colon cancer announced late last
year by leading cancer organizations.
The life-time risk for developing colon cancer is approximately 6
percent, and by getting a colonoscopy at regular and appropriate
intervals, the risk may be reduced to a very low number.
While the statistics may seem small, we would not think that losing
50,000 people each year from the disease was insignificant if it
included our mother, father, sister or brother. And for many people,
it does.
This is a preventable disease; if you are 50 or over and at average
risk, talk to your doctor about getting screened.

chiropractic training, when the subject of manipulation-induced
stroke was brought up, we were reassured that "millions of

of stroke have been reported following neck manipulation." I recently
found that two of the patients on my vascular service that suffered a
cerebrovascular accident (stroke) had undergone neck manipulation by
a chiropractor, one the day that symptoms had begun and the other
four days afterward. If indeed the incidence of stroke is rare, one
M.D. would see a case of manipulation-induced CVA about every 10
years. But I believe I have seen two in the past month! I therefore
urge my medical colleagues to question their patients regarding
recent visits to a chiropractor/neck manipulation when confronted
with patients that present with the neurologic symptoms of stroke. I
also urge potential chiropractic patients to not allow their necks to
be manipulated in any way. The risk-to-benefit ratio is much too high
to warrant such a procedure.

Ryke Geerd Hamer:

I just found a PDF, which is claimed to be written by Ezra Iwan Götz, who
(somehow...) supports Ryke Geerd Hamer.
Götz states that Hamer said:

I do not know if Götz lies or if he tells the truth. But Hamer is a
murderous threat to cancer patients. So far we found more than 185 cases
of death related with the Hamer scene.

Last month there was a report in the Dutch TV station TROS radar:

In october 2008 Radio Canada broadcasted a 2-part report concerning the
Hamer scene.
In Germany the SWR in 2002 had a report and the RBB had several reports
concerning the Hamer scene.
I am in contact with families which lost men or women because of the Hamer
scene.
The Hamer scene is the by far most dangerous sect in Europe since at least
the second world war. I ask you to please expel Ryke Geerd Hamer and to
stop the activities of the Hamer scene, part of which call themselves
"meta-mediciners" and hide their activities under various guises.

Sehr geehrter Herr Professor Eger,
Sie sind über den Fall Nieber et al informiert :

Seit Ende 2003 hat es die Universität Leipzig nicht geschafft, ihren
groben Pfusch aufzuräumen.
1. Das Mindeste, was man von Homöopathen verlangen kann und darf und muß,
ist, daß sie sich an die Grundregeln der Homöopathie halten.
Wie man unschwer erkennen kann, sind bei den Versuchen an der Universität
Leizig diese Grundregeln nicht eingehalten worden.
2. Ich fordere die Universität Leipzig heraus, zu beweisen, daß sie sich
EINWANDFREI an die Grundregeln der Homöopathie gehalten hat.
3. Ich fordere die Universität Leipzig heraus, zu beweisen, daß das Schütteln
eine einwandfrei reproduzierbare, meßbare Größe für den Nachweis der
Wirksamkeit liefert.
4. Ich behaupte, daß die Versuche an der Universität Leipzig elementarste
Grundregeln der Homöopathie mißachten und daher keine Homöopathie sind.
Wissenschaftlich sind sie erst recht nicht.
Bevor Sie mir mit einer der typischen Standardfloskeln der Esoteriker
antworten, rate ich Ihnen, erst einmal diese Web-Seiten

New data from clinical trials which evaluated vaccine efficacy in countries with
high child mortality has led to the recommendation for global use of the
vaccine. This is reported in the Weekly Epidemiological Review published on June
5, 2009.

Clinical trial
The GAVI Alliance, vaccine manufacturers, and the public health community made
an unprecedented commitment to understand how these vaccines would work in
developing-world conditions.
The clinical trial, funded in part by GAVI and conducted by PATH, WHO,
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), and research institutions in high-mortality,
low-socioeconomic settings of South Africa and Malawi, found that rotavirus
vaccine significantly reduced severe diarrhoea episodes due to rotavirus.
Clears the way
“This WHO recommendation clears the way for vaccines that will protect children
in the developing world from one of the most deadly diseases they face," said
Dr. Tachi Yamada, President of the Global Health Program at the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation.
“We need to act now to deliver vaccines to children in Africa and Asia, where
most rotavirus deaths occur.”
Portfolio of vaccines
In 2006, the GAVI Alliance added rotavirus vaccines to its portfolio of vaccines
for which it provides financial support to developing countries, underscoring
GAVI’s commitment to reduce the traditional 15- to 20-year lag between the
introduction of new vaccines in wealthy countries and their availability in the
developing world.
Today, WHO’s global recommendation paves the way for low-income countries in
Africa and Asia to apply to GAVI for introduction of rotavirus vaccines— just
three years after new rotavirus vaccines became available in the US, Europe, and
Latin America.
“The GAVI Alliance welcomes this exciting recommendation,” said GAVI CEO, Dr.
Julian Lob-Levyt.
“It represents another important step in our ability to achieve significant
impact on under-five deaths in the world’s poorest communities and make progress
towards the Millennium Development Goals. We are extremely excited about the
potential to offer African and Asian countries funding to introduce rotavirus
vaccines.”
Studies
Because oral vaccines can have variable efficacy in different populations, it
was important to demonstrate vaccine performance in high-mortality settings. The
studies in Africa were conducted among populations with high infant and child
mortality, poor sanitary conditions, high diarrhoeal disease mortality, and high
maternal HIV prevalence.
“The new evidence and the WHO recommendation are major breakthroughs for the
health of our children,” said Dr. Oyewale Tomori, Vice Chancellor of Redeemer's
University, Nigeria, who has served as Regional Laboratory Coordinator for the
World Health Organization (Africa Region).
“Too many of our children are dying from rotavirus and other causes of
diarrhoea. We urgently need these lifesaving vaccines against rotavirus.”
Investigators
The clinical trial investigators from Malawi and South Africa will present and
publish their data on the GSK RotarixTM vaccine later this summer.
Clinical trial sites in Bangladesh and Vietnam—along with sites in Ghana, Mali,
and Kenya—evaluated the performance of Merck’s rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq®, and
data are expected in Fall 2009.
While efficacy data from Asian countries are forthcoming, SAGE recommended
rotavirus vaccines for all populations, including Asia, since available evidence
indicates that efficacy data can be extrapolated to populations with similar
mortality patterns, regardless of geographic location.
Comprehensive strategy
Because there are many causes of diarrhoeal disease, SAGE emphasized the
importance of providing rotavirus vaccination in the context of a comprehensive
diarrhoeal disease control strategy, including improvement of water quality,
hygiene, and sanitation; provision of oral rehydration solution and zinc
supplements; and overall improved case management.
WHO, UNICEF, and other GAVI partners are working together in a new accelerated
and integrated approach to combat rotavirus diarrhoea and pneumonia, the two
biggest vaccine-preventable diseases which together account for more than 35
percent of all child deaths each year, the majority of which are in the
developing world.
