Lymphocytopenia and viral infections...

Why do viral infections (like the common cold) often cause
lymphocytopenia? Do these infections kill T-Cells, or do the T-Cells
temporarily leave the blood stream to fight the infection? Just
curious. Maybe the answer is not so simple.
