Can anyone explain to me (or point me to a suitable textbook) that
explains how to do basic manipulations between quaternions and
rotations? I have a quaternion that represents the orientation of a 3
dimensional object with respect to a Cartesian coordinate frame {xc,
yc, zc}. I'd like to compute the x, y, z axes of the rotated object
in the {xc, yc, zc} frame. Any ideas on where to start? Many thanks!

Le Pichon, X., Francheteau, J. and Bonin, J. "Plate Tectonics" 302pp.
Elsevier 1973
Cox, A. and Hart, R.B. "Plate tectonics: How it works" 392pp.
Blackwell 1986

I forgot to mention that Le Pichon et al. use quaternions to do the
same job that Cox & Hart p.231-234 use 3 X 3 matrices for.

If you crosspost this to 'sci.math', then there's a chance that J.Mebius
will pick it up. He is an expert in the field.
