from CO2 is the most dangerous thing , to exposing their Communist agenda
of anti Capitalism of banning anything that makes the world economy grow and
improves the quality of life for the world's people.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/2061358/'CO2-scrubberandrsquo-could-help-slow-global-warming.html
A new machine designed to "suck" carbon dioxide from the air could help in
the fight to save the world from climate change, according to physicists.
A group of scientists are devising a 'CO2 scrubber' which they claim will
capture one tonne of CO2 from the air every day, about the same per
passenger as a flight from London to New York, reducing the warming effect
of greenhouse gases produced each year.
Although the idea has been mooted as a possible weapon in the battle against
climate change, it falls far short of a quick fix solution.
The 'scrubber' devices - small enough to fit inside a shipping container -
would need to be produced in their millions to soak up human carbon
emissions, and the CO2 trapped would still need to be disposed of.
The prototype will cost about £100,000 and take about two years to construct
at a laboratory in Tucson, Arizona.
Environmentalists may warn that so-called technological solutions to global
warming undermine attempts to promote greener lifestyles and industries.
Physicist Klaus Lackner, of New York's Columbia University, who led the U.S.
team behind the invention, said the CO2 scrubber offered more hope than
current efforts to cut carbon emissions by reducing fossil fuel use.
"I'd rather have a technology that allows us to use fossil fuels without
destroying the planet, because people are going to use them anyway" he said.
Professor Lackner said carbon dioxide could be removed from the atmosphere
by absorbing it in various chemical filters and a newly discovered property
of absorbent plastic sheets - which are routinely used to purify water -
would be used to used to clean those filters of CO2 so they can then be
reused to carry on the job.
The captured carbon dioxide could then be pumped into greenhouses to boost
plant growth.
Climate experts have reported that CO2 levels in the atmosphere are now 40%
higher than before the industrial revolution and "scrubbing" the carbon from
the air is seen as one of the greatest challenges in climate science. Sir
Richard Branson has promised £12.6m to anyone who succeeds.

Scientists at Columbia University are developing a carbon dioxide (CO2)
scrubber device that removes one ton of CO2 from the air every day, says the
Heartland Institute.
While some see the scrubber as an efficient and economical way to reduce
atmospheric carbon dioxide, many environmentalists oppose the technology
because it allows people to use fossil fuels and emit carbon in the first
place.
According to Columbia University physicist Klaus Lackner, who is leading the
research team:
Producing a large number of CO2 scrubbers can keep to a minimum any rise in
atmospheric CO2 without the economically painful elimination of inexpensive
energy sources. This technology would allow people to use fossil fuels,
which they will be using anyway, without destroying the planet.
Environmental activist groups such as Greenpeace have consistently opposed
similar technologies, such as carbon capture and sequestration, because they
do not address what they see as the root of the problem, says the Heartland
Institute.
"This is just one more piece of evidence that environmentalists aren't
concerned about solving a problem," said Sterling Burnett, a senior fellow
with the National Center for Policy Analysis. "Every problem, as they see
it, is one way to restrict people's lifestyles, and if you come up with a
technological fix that can solve a problem but doesn't require sacrifice and
lets us go about our business the way we were before, they're not happy
about it, even if it solves the problem."

# What is the chimney problem?
A chimney discharges smoke, steam, gas, etc, into the atmosphere,
instead of recycling it.
We don't allow raw sewage discharge into the ocean, so why let chimneys
shit into the atmosphere?
The scrubber idea sounds sensible, and should be tried.
If all chimney waste products can be recycled, then "clean coal" has
arrived, and - no problem. But act fast, as the climate change "window of
opportunity" is closing. |

The Fourth Report of the IPCC might just as well decree the
suppression of all climatology textbooks, and replace them in our
schools with press communiqués. ... Day after day, the same mantra -
that 'the Earth is warming up' - is churned out in all its forms. As
'the
ice melts' and 'sea level rises' the Apocalypse looms ever nearer!
Without realizing it, or perhaps without wishing to, the average
citizen in bamboozled, lobotomized, and lulled into mindless acceptance.
.... Non-believers in the greenhouse scenario are in the
position of those long ago who doubted the existence of God ...

It should be abundantly clear by now that the AGW hypothesis is
contradicted by the facts/measurements/observations and should
therefore be abandoned and be substituted by a hypothesis which
better matches the facts.

# "Garbage" is an apt word, under the circumstances.
I'm at opposite end of the political spectrum to Climate Change
Skeptics - I'm a Prophet of Doom, and predict that the Mad Ape, Homo
(self-styled) Sapiens, the Darling of the Gods, will be decimated or extinct
by 2050 AD,
Odd about the Skeptics. These folk probably swallow all the guff dealt
out by theologians, yet when majority of world scientists say global warming
is happening, and produce evidence to support it - the Skeptics pop out of
the woodwork (what's left of it), and go into Denial.
True, climate change tends to be insidious, slow, and underhand - but it
is creeping up on us, and we ignore warning signs at our peril. It is
likely too late already to reverse the trend, to extinction.
The major polluting industries want to be feather-bedded when it comes to
action, and are quite happy to pass on any cost to the average mug in the
street - thus helping precipitate a Depression.
Almost any move we 6.5 billion human locusts now make impacts adversely
on our habitat, and once it is ruined, then we are ruined also.
So, Climate Skeptics, dream on, but don't blame me if you wake up and
find yourselves dead.
Tomorrow is National Tree Day (whatever that means), so I've composed a
little ditty for the occasion:
=============
Botanicax
=============
I think that I shall never see,
A thing more stupid than a Tree.
Let's take an axe, and make it fall,
And, just for laughs, on you 'n all.
* * * *
Homo Sap chopped trees too often,
So Nature gave him a wood coffin.

# What is the chimney problem?
A chimney discharges smoke, steam, gas, etc, into the atmosphere,
instead of recycling it.
We don't allow raw sewage discharge into the ocean,
Wanna bet? Most of Sydney's sewage is untreated and is discharged 2 km
offshore.
Quote: so why let chimneys
shit into the atmosphere?
The scrubber idea sounds sensible, and should be tried.
If all chimney waste products can be recycled, then "clean coal" has
arrived, and - no problem.
No problem? So, you've scrubbed the CO2 - fine. What do do with it now
you've scrubbed it? BIG problem.
If you knew anything about geology, you'd know that geosequestration is
untenable, so what do you do with your captured CO2? |

Because for many years, they seem to have focused on denying that CO2
emissions can possibly be a problem:

Heartland Institute
From ExxonSecrets.org
FACTSHEET: HEARTLAND INSTITUTE, HEARTLAND
DETAILS
19 South LaSalle St., Suite 903 Chicago, IL 60603
Phone: 312-377-4000
Founded in the early 1990s, Heartland Institute claims to apply
"cutting-edge research to state and local public policy issues."
Additionally, Heartland bills itself as "the marketing arm of the free-
market movement."
http://www.capitalresearch.org/search/orgdisplay.asp?Org=HEA100
The Heartland Institute created a website in the Spring of 2007,
www.globalwarmingheartland.org, which asserts there is no scientific
consensus on global warming and features a list of experts and a list
of like-minded think tanks, many of whom have received funding from
ExxonMobil and other polluters.
The Heartland Institute networks heavily with other conservative
policy organizations, and is part of the State Policy Network, a
member of the Cooler Heads Coalition (as of 4/04), and co-sponsored
the 2001 Fly In for Freedom with the Wise Use umbrella group, Alliance
for America. Heartland also co-sponsored a New York state Conference
on Property Rights, hosted by the Property Rights Foundation of
America.
The Institute puts out several publications, including "Environment &
Climate News" which frequently features anti-environmentalist and
climate skeptic writing. They also published "Earth Day '96," a
compilation of articles on environmental topics. The publication,
distributed on college campuses, featured "Adventures in the Ozone
Layer" by S. Fred Singer, and "the Cold Facts on Global Warming" by
Sallie Baliunas. The articles denied the serious nature of ozone
depletion and global warming.
Walter F. Buchholtz, an ExxonMobil executive, serves as Heartland's
Government Relations Advisor, according to Heartland's 2005 IRS Form
990, pg. 15.
http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocuments/2005/363/309/2005-363309812-0295fbb2-9.pdf
The Heartland Institute formerly sponsored and hosted www.climatesearch.org,
a web page ostensibly dedicated to objective research on global
warming, but at the same time presenting heavily biased research by
organizations such as the American Petroleum Institute as an FAQ
section.
KEY QUOTES
"Some environmentalists call for a "save-the-day" strategy to 'stop
global warming,' saying it is better to be safe than sorry. Such a
position seems logical until we stop to think: Immediate action
wouldn't make us any safer, but it would surely make us poorer. And
being poorer would make us less safe."
Source: Heartland Institute "Instant Expert Guide: Global Warming"
1 February, 2007
"Unfortunately, global warming is an issue that is well suited to
political demagoguery, which can be defined as pandering to
misinformed voters and promising unrealistic solutions. Since opinion
polls indicate a majority of the public believes warming is happening,
politicians might think the safe strategy is to say “I believe global
warming is a serious problem and I support measures to reduce global
warming pollution by supporting renewable fuels and energy
efficiency.” Such politicians should be “outed” for claiming to be
smarter than scientists who have studied climate for many years and
for using scare tactics to win elections."

benefits are likely to outweigh costs, and taking action now in the

Like the Heartland Institute, this is another rightwing think tank
that has been heavily funded by Exxon-Mobil.
The board of directors of the NCPA is curiously slanted -- they're not
all oil and energy company executives, but the many of them seem to
come from Dallas, Texas and to represent corporations (real estate,
financial investments, health care companies, etc.) headquartered in
Dallas.
Former Delaware governor Pete DuPont, ultra-conservative GOP candidate
for president a few years ago, is the NPCA's executive director. One
of their other directors, James Cleo Thompson, Jr., is Chairman of the
Board, Thompson Petroleum Corporation.
Their main policy analyst on energy issues, H. Sterling Burnett, seems
from a quick scan of his commentaries on the NCPA web site to be an
AGW Denier, although a reasonably smart one, and a persistent foe of
alternative energy -- e.g. wind energy.
Here's a little background on the group:

States.
In 1996, Pete du Pont co-founded IntellectualCapital.com, a weekly on-
line public policy journal featuring the leading ideas of renowned
public policy thinkers. He served as editor of this e-zine and bylined
his own column until its sale in 2000. In October, 1999,

and a constitutional amendment that restrained future tax increases
and limited government spending. He balanced his state budget eight
out of eight years. In selecting him as one of the "Delawareans of the
