AGW hypocrisy rolls on.

So which leftie loonies in this newsgroup will now sell their Prius and
rush out to nuy a Tata?

Thought so ...

July 15, 2008

Global warming fanatics panicked to hear that the Tata corporation was
building a cheap car that tens of millions of Indians could at last
afford. Save the planet, let Indians walk, was the cry.

Turns out it's the warming believers of the West who should be walking
instead. The new Tata Nano unveiled this week is in fact the only car
any green should drive:

The orb-like Tata Nano was unveiled at the New Delhi Auto Expo today,
boasting a 30-horsepower 624-cc engine; a four-speed manual
transmission; a disc/drum brake setup; room for five (based on the above
photo); and claimed fuel economy of 54 US miles.

At just $2500 per car, it's billed as the People's Prius - when in fact
it makes the Prius seem like the Hypocrite's Hummer:

The Tata Nano, which debuted at the 2008 Delhi auto show, boasts fuel
economy numbers over 50 mpg in the city and over 60 on the highway (the
Prius tops out at 45).

There is a political moral to this story. The Rudd and Brumby
Governments gave $70 million to Toyota to build a new green hybrid Camry
in Australia, providing just 200 jobs but burnishing the politicians'
credentials as global warming saviours.

Turns out once again that picking commercial winners is a mug's game in
politics. The Tata emits far, far less gas than the Camry hybrid, and
will cost far, far less energy to make as well. Our cash has been
splashed up a warming wall.

UPDATE

Reader Ant takes the logical next step:

I say all Federal and State Labor administrations immediately replace
the government fleet with the Tata Nano.

To "save the planet", you know.

Not just save the planet, Ant, but save the taxpayers' wallet as well as
alleviate poverty in India, rather than poverty in Toyota.

The Nano's mileage has never been measured by the EPA, and its EPA
figures you're quoting for the Prius.  So you're a doofus.

But doesn't offer air conditioning, power anything, ...  And it's not
been US crash tested.

ROTFLMAO
An agenda-driven, socialist leftie loonie who wants air
conditioning????!!!!!
Is this hypocrisy with a capital "H" or isn't it????
And worrying about crash testing too?
Nah, that would emit too much CO2!!!
