I'm wondering if Shrillary Clinton has any idea of how she's going to
do all she's been promising.

I know, I know, campaign promises don't mean a thing, but sadly some
people will believe her grandiose and unrealistic promises.

But Judity, why is that any different from any other candidates
grandiose promises? They all do it. Like Bush Sr - "Read my lips, no new
taxes."

Especially her medical promises since big pharm and insurance corporations
donate to her -- sorry, but those guys cannot be at the table for health
care reform -- they are the problem. Her mandatory health care means you
"have to" pay for it, as in it will be garnished from your wages if you
don't buy it. Well, crap, if everyone could afford it they would already
have it!

Rae, President Bush did break his word, but Shrillary is taking
promises into the realm of fantasy, at least in my Independent
opinion.

Sue, the health plans being proposed make me wonder who will pay for
them. I have always paid for my own health insurance, even when
working, even when it cost me over $400 a month. If any of the
proposed plans involves fiddling around with my Senior Advantage
insurance, I will be extremely angry.

One promise, and I can't remember which of the three said it, was that
Senior Citizens would not have to pay any tax on their Social
Security. Another was a $1,000 tax credit for everyone. Even though
I do like both of these, again I wonder where the money will come from
to pay for them. Thankfully I don't believe anything any of the
three tell us to get our vote.

What does worry me the most is Shrillary's thinking on Iran and how
she would react to threats from them about attacking Israel. Just
what we need, another war and this time with the threat of nuclear
weapons hanging over our country. Of course if we do get bombed by
Iran or China or any of the other places with nuclear weapons, I'll be
gone into a million tiny pieces.

Maybe I should just become like Alfred E. Neuman, "What, me worry?"

((Since Hillary is talking about instituting something
similar for the entire country, I'd be interested in hearing from
people who
are already dealing with this kind of plan. ))

Anne, good point. Some of my younger relatives live in Massachusetts,
so I'll ask them.

((I just keep hearing how indebted Hillary is to health insurance/drug
company
lobbies and am really concerned about her including them at the table
when
deciding how to implement universal coverage.))

This is one of many reasons I don't trust her or her husband. Of
course the other two candidates probably are just as bad.

Did you know Ron Paul has never dropped out of the Presidential race?
Even though it would not count in the long run, I may just vote for
him if he's still on the ballot in November. This seems to be the
only way I can show my disgust and disillusion with what we're being
offered otherwise.

I agree with your concern about Hillary's comments about Iran, but my more
immediate fear at this point is that our present administration is going to
get us embroiled in a conflict with Iran before he leaves office, then dump
his mess on the next administration to disentangle. I just wish we could
get these jokers out of office RIGHT NOW, before they have a chance to
create more of an international fiasco than they already have!

Speaking of Hillary's health care proposals, does anyone here live in
Massachusetts? One of my accounts is not too far from Boston, and it seems
like I'm continually hearing my docs dictate about patients needing to hurry
up and get health insurance coverage before incurring any further fines for
not having insurance. Since Hillary is talking about instituting something
similar for the entire country, I'd be interested in hearing from people who
are already dealing with this kind of plan. How does it seem to be working
out for the public in general? Is there any relief with regard to premium
prices or deductibles, or are you still being forced to pay high premiums
for coverage with monstrous deductibles? What about people who have
preexisting conditions and have a difficult time finding insurance? Is
there any help for them?

I just keep hearing how indebted Hillary is to health insurance/drug company
lobbies and am really concerned about her including them at the table when
deciding how to implement universal coverage. It sure doesn't seem like it
could possibly bode well for those of us who will be forced to purchase
insurance from them, and I detest the idea of handing them one more bit of
power over our health care system.

I've gotten sick of listening to both of them. Obama's plans aren't any
more believable. A $5,000 tax credit to pay for health insurance is not
going to help those who don't make enough to pay income tax to begin with
and there are lots of us in that category.

Also, for both of them, No one pays income tax on Social Security Income
unless you go over a certain amount. I'm not sure what that amount is, but
I know we've never come even close to it.

We do need to do something about health care, but I don't know the answer.
In general I'm happy with Medicare, except doctors you have been to for
years suddenly are dropped from your plan and drugs my husband needs to stay
alive are not covered. He needs nitroglycerine patches. They are not
covered. .2 costs $110 at CVS for 30. I can buy them from the Canadian
Drug Store for $84 for 90 of them. They sell the generic for Flomax in
Canada--exactly the same drug for about 25% of the price he pays here--also
not covered.

So, we could start by going against the pharmaceutical lobby and negotiating
for better prices for drugs. Obama has definitely addressed that. Hillary
has not that I have heard.

At this point I will, however, vote for anybody over McCain.

Another thing that really ticks me off is the payroll tax cap. Even Warren
Buffet feels it is unfair as his secretary percentage-wise pays more taxes
than he does. It is capped at $97,000 so anyone over that only pays SS,
medicare and fed payroll taxes on income of $97,000 even if they are a CEO
making 200 million a year. I say end that shit right now. You make it, you
pay taxes on it. That would solve a lot of the problems right there.

Wow!!!!

I've long had a soft spot in my heart for SMT, but reading this post of
Barbara's is ultimately going to save me a bunch of money!

Out of curiosity, I was looking at how much of our Social Security income
was taxible - it was a bunch! I saw something that didn't look quite right,
dug a little further, and found a $8,919.00 mistake our accountant made.
Somehow, there is income listed from several years ago, back when I worked
for whatsherface and even before that.

He and I are going to have a l..o..n..g talk very soon.... I would be
saying a lot more rat here, but I can't wiffout cussing!

(talking to self)
Damn, when did I retire? This is income from 2 or 3, maybe 4 years beofr
that. How the hell did he do that?

Martha, get your butt home from the casino! We gotta talk, don't you know.

((Also, for both of them, No one pays income tax on Social Security

Barbara, I just pulled out my SS form The amount is $25,000 for a
single person and $32,000 if filing jointly. That amount includes
half of the SS amount received for the year. Even though I'm not
wealthy, I came darn close to having to pay taxes on my SS because of
dividends and capital gain on sold stock. Not having to pay any taxes
on my SS is an important incentive to me.

Regarding health care and medication costs, I chose wisely years ago
when I went with Kaiser Permanente. I just got a three-month supply of
metformin, lisinopril, and simvastatin. My doctor chose to put me on
generics, which cost less. More people could save money if they
insisted on generics as I had, in my opinion.

Sue, I do agree with you that the payroll tax cap should be raised. Of
course, it no longer will affect me since I'm retired, but I do see
your point.

Neal, before you chew out your accountant, do some more research on
how SS is taxable. Look at the back information on the Form SSA-1099
Social Security Benefit Statement you received. Read Notice 703 (Rev,
September 2007) where it says to check out box 5 on the above form.

Unfortunately, our meds do not come in generic form or have been switched
to OTC, which insurance will not pay for. We don't have the luxury of
switching to a generic.

((You are lucky that you live close to Kaiser so you have that option.
The
closest one to me is 2-1/2 hours away. I'm sure others have the same
situation. I can't imagine driving 2-1/2 hours for every office
visit,
especially if I were sick! ))

Kathy, until Kaiser opened a clinic closer to my home, I had to travel
to Santa Rosa for visits. The longer ride wasn't the issue, but
parking there was a horror story. I can remember driving myself there
on back roads to the emergency room doubled over from gallbladder
pain. It took me what felt like hours to find a parking space as I
had to stop every now and then to throw up.

Does anyone else here belong to an HMO?

Judity I would certainly be in favor of raising that amount of exemption
before SS is taxed as those limits aren't that high in today's market, so no
argument there, but both candidates are making statements about SS taxation
that are not based on current facts.

We have generics for any drug there is a generic for! But generic or not,
our health insurance will not pay for Bob's nitro patches or his Flomax, or
his nitro spray--all of which are horrendously expensive and about 1/4 the
price in Canada. Fortunately Toprol recently went to generic, but for 2
months our drug store did not have it. Your insurance plan is not available
in Florida, and a lot of other places, too. I have to pay $76 a month extra
for my plan's PPO instead of the standard HMO so I can see my orthopedist
whom I will not change, and the coverage is not as good for the extra money!

But, without all our medical deductions we might have had to pay income tax
on our SS!

Income
unless you go over a certain amount. I'm not sure what that amount
is, but
I know we've never come even close to it))
