Having just had to deal with YET another price increase in all the feeds we
buy for ourselves and sell to others I was wondering if everyone else around
the country [globe] is having the same experience.
We have had 6 price hikes in the past 9 months. What I sold layers pellets
per bag at this time last year is now a lot less than I can buy wholesale by
the pallet. The price I am having to charge per bag now is horrendous. And
that is with absorbing some of the extra transport costs we got hammered
with recently.
Curious to know what is happening elsewhere?

I think you have too many birds to feed for this, BUT , I'm trying
something new. I'm sprouting wheat and oats and feeding my 40 or so
chickens the sprouted grain which is about 2 times the bulk. The do
love the sprouts. |

That is a great supplement to good range, or an alternative if there is no
range available, and really useful in the winter when there is little useful
out on range. Sprouting grains are more nutritious than plain ones.
Its not a replacement feed though.

Yes
Protein levels are too low, no balanced vits, mins, trace elements, which
are so essential with a productive bird who is giving away more than half
her daily intake in nutrition packed egg.

Sprouting legumes in there helps some, but it still won't contain all the
necessary amino acids.
