Well-educated and rich in US? Has to be a Hindu

WASHINGTON: Hindus in the US truly have something to brag
about -- they are the most educated among all religious
groups and have the second highest income level, next only
to the Jews.

A good 43 per cent of Hindus are earning over USD100,000 a
year, compared to Jews who are marginally ahead of them
with 46 per cent, according to the US Religious Landscape
Survey, conducted by the Washington--based Pew Forum on
Religion and Public Life.

How significant the take--home pay of the two communities
is can be judged from the fact that just 18 per cent of all
Americans make more than USD100,000 annually. The landmark
survey, based on interviews with a nationally
representative sample of over 35,000 adults, projects that
Hindus top the education charts with 48 per cent having
post--graduate degrees.

The Jews follow with 35 per cent, while the national
average is just 11 per cent. Hindus, who account for just
0.4 per cent of the adult population in a country of 303
million people, can also boast of better matrimonial
harmony on the basis of one important yardstick -- they
have the lowest divorced/separated rate (5 per cent) among
all religious groups.

The survey, which claims to explore the "remarkable
dynamism taking place in the US religious marketplace",
also reports that Hindus are the most likely to be married
(78 per cent) -- and to be married to someone within the
faith (90 per cent).

Christians form the bulk of America’s population -- 78.4
per cent. Of them, 51.3 per cent are Protestants, 23.9 per
cent Catholics and the rest belong to a number of smaller
Christian groups. Jews account for 1.7 per cent, while
Muslims (0.6 per cent) are just a little more than the
number of Hindus.

When you consider that since the 80's those that have immigrated to
the U.S. much like the Indians and such that are doing so now don't
pay tax's. They come here and start buisinesses and don't have to pay
tax's for 5-7 years . After that time is up they simply have a
relative come over and take over the buisiness and the cycle go's on
and on. What becomes of the money they save? They send it to their
home country of course. If i could have been alowed to satrt a
buisiness and not had to pay tax's for 7 years then turn it over to a
relative and keep going I'd be rich also. It's not because of
education, it's because they get a ffee ride at our expence

The above comment by "charles q" is factually incorrect. Still, if
one wants to talk about free rides, talk about the free ride that
Europeans got for themselves by exterminating most of the natives
when they arrived in the Americas and occupied the land. Now take a
look at the following data:

NATIONS SENDING
LARGEST PERCENTAGE
OF TOTAL U.S.
IMMIGRANTS, 1820-1987

Germany 13.0%
Italy 10.0%
United Kingdom 9.4%
Ireland 8.8%
Canada 7.9%
USSR 6.3%
Austria-Hungary 6.0% *
Mexico 5.0%

* All between 1860 and 1910

Service 1987 STATISTICAL YEARBOOK (1988).
Readers are welcome to update the chart
with figures for years after 1987.

Well, John, if you look at the backgrounds of these people, you may
notice that most of them were relatively poor back in India until their
recent migration to the Land of Opportunity. Of course, comparing apples
to apples was never your strong suit, so it probably never occurred to
you that it is not a fair comparison to put up Hindus imported
specifically on qualifications versus an entire homeland society, did
it? Now, if you were to make a comparison of, let's say, white American
Christians in India and their educational and income levels compared to
the general Hindu population in India, would you say "Well-educated and
rich in India? Has to be a white Christian"? I would bet my bottom
dollar that you would never do that.
