Well, I moved here because I like moderate weather. Its getting too
damned moderate for my liking.

1. Most of the regulars of this newsgroup are in the temperate zone. It
appears to me that this word works like the word "flammable". Flammable
means inflammable.

The temperate zone is where the weather has a temper!

2. Normal American weather (also applies to much of Canada) is to act
"normal" enough of the time to make us think that there is such a thing as
"normal American weather".

3. Most Americans are in the part of North America that gets wacky
weather - the part east of the Pacific Ocean.

- Don Klipstein (don@misty.com)

We have not had "Normal" weather in my part of the country for 15 years or more.
There are teenage children who have never experienced the type of winters we routinely used to experience. We used to number tens
of days of below zero temperatures in the winter. These are a rarity now. Outdoor ice rinks have trouble keeping ice in February.

This year was the exception to that trend however, in that is was cooler than the last 10, but nothing like the 60's. There was
period in January of 62 or 63, where the temperature never got above zero F for 21 days or so. If that happened now, we would think
the world was at an end.

Bah humbug. Minor variations. Look up things for the past 2000
years. Then compare over 200,000 years, and 20,000,000 years. And to
get to the dinosaurs look at 200,000,000 years.

Then come to California, the area west of the old Ponderosa. They are
still geting frost at night and it's end of April. We are still cranking
the wood stove and we aren't even up there but only 1400ft altitude.
This house used to be heated quite comfortably with 1.5 to 2 cords of
mixed wood. Now it's over 4 with hardwood, over 5 with pine. There ain't
nothing getting warmer out here.

In the mid-90's we used to sit on the deck in shorts and T-shirts by the
end of February. Now the wood stove is running full bore at that time.

Its the Jet Stream, obviously.....

It's a liberal/greenie religion thing... you must believe in global
warming as an act of faith ;-)

Great Zeus.......
How dare you mix up greenyism and religion, greenyism has nothing to
do with H.Potter or other books of fantasy

probably won't work on Win 3.11 :)

Sno-o-o-ort!

It really hasn't been that long since I was using WFWG 3.11

Back when Windows was actually a pretty good operating system ;-)

...Jim Thompson

Actually it was an OS extension and GUI overlay (like X-windows) back
then. It ran on top of some DOS at the 3.x level. I expect that you
actually do remember.

I remember when they thoroughly debunked the "global warming" myth back
in the 1970's.

Half the atmosphere's CO2 increase from pre-industrial times to 2004
occurred since about 1972-1973.

You may be referring to the fact that global temperatures were the same
in the late 1970's as in the very early 1930's. In the mid 1970's there
was a bit of talk about an ice age. Maybe all that soot, ash and sulfuric
acid aerosol that went into the air back in dirtier times was good for
something!

- Don Klipstein (don@misty.com)

There is actually some research done on that topic. Some scientists
noticed that evaporation rates were dropping (due to decreased solar
energy flux) rather than increasing (due to temp increases).

Their conclusion was that the increase in particulates at high altitudes
in the atmosphere were offsetting the effects of greenhouse gasses.

I don't think that the principles involved are bunk. Its just that we
haven't put together a decent model of how the climate works and without
it, we won't have a good idea about whether proposed solutions are just
money thrown down a rathole.

What the proposed solution to a unproven cause to a normal situation
is naught but a power grab.

Since GW is not happening, the advocates are hedging their bets,
finding a reason to keep up the panic and the funding even if it
continues to cool off for another decade or so.

``Natural variations over the next 10 years might be heading in the
cold direction,'' Wood said. ``If you run the model long enough,
eventually global warming will win.''

What he seems to be saying is that if you use enough supercomputers to
run climate simulations, you *will* heat up the atmosphere.

We can alway compensate for the rise with a couple of nuclear winters.

Just wait, when they have evidence that the earth is cooling they
will say "see we save the earth" and Algore will get another Nobel prize.

Sure, when the sun goes supernova. Sad

It is too small. The Earth will fry when it goes "Late phase red
giant".
