We just went down the hill to our favorite Mexican sushi restaurant,
and liked to froze. It's officially 52F just now in San Francisco, but
in our neighborhood it's always colder than the official value. Low
predicted for tomorrow is 41. Sunny California my ass!

70F here (feels like 78 with the 38% RH), watched a MLB game with the
dome open. Other than the somewhat pricey $10 bud 'beer', a good day.

$10 Canadian?

Yes. Essentially at par at the moment.

At our ballpark, beer is pretty much all $9, but they'll
mix you up a Black&Tan for the same price. The garlic fries are pretty
good.

Fries with garlic salt?

This is a sweet little ballpark. The water in the foreground is China
Basin. When games are being played, it's full of boats and kayaks
waiting for splash-down homers. This pic looks like it's been
Photoshopped.

John

Nice. Looks like it could get a fair breeze at times.

It isn't global warming any more it is climate change, and whichever way
it changes it will be bad and be our fault.

They still call it "global warming" a lot.

I do remember "climate change" making a surge back when they thought
this would cause some parts of the world to get colder - especially
western and northern Europe, due to freshwater runoff from melting of
Greenland's icecap pushing the Gulf Stream southward.

Nowadays, it appears to me that there is less thought that the Gulf
Stream is that vulnerable to changing course from global warming.

Well, I moved here because I like moderate weather. Its getting too
damned moderate for my liking.

1. Most of the regulars of this newsgroup are in the temperate zone. It
appears to me that this word works like the word "flammable". Flammable
means inflammable.

The temperate zone is where the weather has a temper!

2. Normal American weather (also applies to much of Canada) is to act
"normal" enough of the time to make us think that there is such a thing as
"normal American weather".

3. Most Americans are in the part of North America that gets wacky
weather - the part east of the Pacific Ocean.

If you still have today's paper, can you tell us how much global
temperature has dropped? From what and when to what and when?

We have not had "Normal" weather in my part of the country for 15 years or more.
There are teenage children who have never experienced the type of winters we routinely used to experience. We used to number tens
of days of below zero temperatures in the winter. These are a rarity now. Outdoor ice rinks have trouble keeping ice in February.

This year was the exception to that trend however, in that is was cooler than the last 10, but nothing like the 60's. There was
period in January of 62 or 63, where the temperature never got above zero F for 21 days or so. If that happened now, we would think
the world was at an end.

Well, it is somewhere in the old paper bin outside ready for pick-up.
I don't recall the article stating any numbers though. However, Google
came up with this:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/
news.html?in_article_id=557209&in_page_id=1770

This mentions a forecast for 2008 to have a 1-year cooling down to .4
degree C above the 1961-1990 average due to La Nina.

Then come to California, the area west of the old Ponderosa. They are
still geting frost at night and it's end of April. We are still cranking
the wood stove and we aren't even up there but only 1400ft altitude.
This house used to be heated quite comfortably with 1.5 to 2 cords of
mixed wood. Now it's over 4 with hardwood, over 5 with pine. There ain't
nothing getting warmer out here.

In the mid-90's we used to sit on the deck in shorts and T-shirts by the
end of February. Now the wood stove is running full bore at that time.

This ain't happening. Else it would be warmer here and we wouldn't have
people freezing their behinds in places like San Diego.

Half the atmosphere's CO2 increase from pre-industrial times to 2004

No, actually it was a science article titled something like "Global
Warming - a Cosmic Perspective".

The warmingists completely dismiss albedo, probably because they've
never heard of it.

No they don't - it is a positive feedback mechanism, due to change in
snow and ice cover.

This is how slight changes in sunlight going to middle and high
latitudes of the northern hemisphere (Milankovich cycles) can change
global temperatures by 10 degrees C.

Quote:
Have they never heard of clouds either? Wink

I remember back in the 1980's how global warming was supposed to
increase cloud cover by increasing water vapor content in the atmosphere.

Since then, climate scientists have been coming up with clouds playing
only minimal feedback role, and not agreeing on which direction. And I
haven't heard anyone saying the world has actually gotten any cloudier
since cooler times.
