There's a few books coming out from Springer Praxis concerning
the Soviet space program. One is titled "Salyut - the First Space
Station: Triumph and Tragedy". Does anyone know if it contains
anything new (particularly photographs), or is it the same, sad ol'
parade of lame-ass artists' impressions and line drawings we've all
seen a million times?

Speaking of Springer Praxis books, has anyone seen "How Apollo Flew to
the Moon" (Springer Praxis Books) by W. David Woods that would care to
offer an opinion of the book? Preferably, you will have actually
looked at the book (smile) before opining.

Take care and have a great weekend . . .

If you are looking for Salyut 1 images, have you seen the footage
available on Ivan Safronov's Spacevideo.ru website? There is an
excellent "Salyut 1" soviet era propaganda film on his site that makes
the subscription price more than worth the money. It's got gobbs of
design and construction footage, testing, and the only "in-orbit"
footage ever released.

Ah-ha. That sounds very interesting, BUT I can't see the point
of shelling out money for a new book if this fresh info hasn't been
included. It's just recycling old stuff. I forked out for the
'Buran' book, basically just to have everything we know to-date
compiled in one easy-to-handle volume.

I downloaded his lo-res version of that doco. The only on-orbit
footage released was, I'm not surprised to say, absolute crap.
