Had lidocaine and carbocaine, 3 separate times, as numbing was not
real effective at first for lower dental work. The next day (today), I
still have numbness on right side of tongue. Dentist said it will take
a few weeks for it to disappear, due to lingual nerve trauma.
Is this usual/accurate?

I wouldn't say usual, but it happens. Yes, you will almost certainly
regain sensation, but timing is tough to predict.
