Open Office will handle most Microsoft files. If you are cutting down
your user base because of that, you are making a mistake. More likely
your computer has been compromised by Uberzoft in some third party
government Blitzkrieg. Speak to the officials in the IT or your
education department and ask permission to D/L:

Meanwhile here is the PDF available from Google as HTML:
http://209.85.129.104/search?q=cache:h71wRHjWtLgJ:www.seismo.unr.edu/htdocs/academic/ANDERSON/GE679_06/05-Paleoseismology-1_2006.pdf+WELLS+%26+COPPERSMITH&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=uk&lr=lang_en&client=firefox-a

Hmm.. it won't behave like it should; obviously DRMed. Thanks Google,
you crapolist.

If the PDF isn't compromised with DRM you can copy sections from it
with Foxit Reader. A free PDF reader.

Do you mean the regressions on page 4 of
http://www.ce.washington.edu/~geotech/courses/cee526/arduino/chapter4a.p
df ?
That doesn't look too challenging. I can knock up something in OOO if
you want it, but I suspect that you're looking for something more
convoluted.

Seismic Sources

Magnitude indicators (cont)

That's all the text copier will pick up in Foxit Reader.
The Picture copier in it, will transfer it to Writer. Ditto for Calc,
(Open Office's version of XL) but only as a bitmap image.

I don't have a printer or scanner attached to this machine so no
optical character recognition installed. I'm not sure if I could
convert that to text with such anyway. Anyone know?

I tried to use an OCR tool that takes my image from the PDF that I
copied using Foxit Reader and planting it in Writer the Open Office
word processor. But the tool I tried seems to only work with Word. And
I am not sure which version of that one.

I have yet to try the others pointed out. I might plump for the Linux
one. I am going there shortly so I might as well try to get used to
it.

To use the OCR tool you also need to download the Microsoft Netware.
The link for that is pointed out on the download page for the other.
