I would like to hear the opinions of others about
the accuracy of prolific fiction author W.E.B. Griffin.
W.E.B. Griffin has written a lot re: Marines, Army,
(and covert), and Law Enforcement from pre- WWII
through at least things in Africa in 1960's.
Obviously I'd better clarify.
I understand he writes fiction.
But to me (just MHO) good fiction does not have
a large number of inaccuracies - or at least glarring
implausibilities.
I do not mind that a 'main character' is a false name,
or that he 'gets credit' for doing several things that real
people have really done.
If a book claims a numbered military unit was at a
named place on a named date - I'd like it to be correct.
I get real uneasy when near impossiblilities just keep
mounting up. Or if supposedly some Marine is described
as taking place in every one of the WWII amphibious
landings.
(And, I'm kind of sorry about the diverse newsgroups
I've sent this to, but possibly good way to get some
variety of thoughts and opinions.) |
