Royal Empress tree, Foxglove tree, Kawakami, Kiri tree, Princess tree,
Rattlebox tree and Sapphire Princess) is a fast-growing tree
originally native to eastern Asia that was named after Anna Pavlovna,
daughter of Paul I, the czar of Russia. Now it can be found growing
naturalized in various regions worldwide including much of the eastern
U.S.

Paulownia can grow 10 feet vertically in a year making it the world's
fastest growing tree. It can rise up to 60 feet tall with a spread of
30 feet across. The wood is among the highest valued American
hardwoods. Paulownia produces bouquets of richly scented violet
flowers in the spring, large heart-shaped leaves which provide dense
shade during the summer, and clusters of plump pods full of seeds in
the fall. It tolerates almost any soil condition without any special
care; is seldom bothered by pests; withstands air pollution from urban
areas and resists temperatures down to -10º F.
