I'm a student at Iowa State, and I have to research polymer
preceramics(eg. SiC) I've looked on Google but despite lots of
examples I can't find any sites about how they are made. It's for a
class on ceramics processing. Thanks.

They are made by a chemist. They could be made by an engineer, but
you would rather start by having them designed to work properly than
be optimized to work as well as they can given what you've got. First
stuff, then things.

Google
ceramic polymer precursor synthesis 4630 hits
ceramic polymer precursors synthesis 4580 hits
ceramic polymer precursor 6620 hits
ceramic polymer precursors 6330 hits
sic polymer precursor 3170 hits
sic polymer precursors 2870 hits
"silicon carbide" polymer precursor 2170 hits
"silicon carbide" polymer precursors 2010 hits

Polymer precursors for ceramics especially SiC have been around for a long
time.
It's not difficult to make good stuff from the traditional materials (Al2O3,
SiC, ZrO2) anymore - (despite what some of the academics may tell you)
- the real bug a boo in the ceramic component industry is the manufacture of
cost effective things.
Machining is difficult esp. for SiC and for many forming processes scrap
rates are high while forming rates are low.
There is also the chicken and egg syndrome for many ceramic component
parts - low volume because of high cost and high cost because of low volume.
What's needed are good forming methods and materials with low capital
expenditure - a true marriage of chemistry and engineering
