I have a bottle of old (very old) saline solution from the days when
I used contact lenses. Does saline solution age with the passage of
time? I want to use it to clean my eyelids and eyelashes externally
only. Is it safe? And if not, what would you recommend for that
purpose?

probably it would be unsafe to use it. true saline solutions have
quite weak preservatives (e.g. EDTA) that do not stand up longterm
especially if it has been opened. I usually recommend simply a warm
wash cloth and warm tap water to clean eyelids. There is a commercial
product from OcuSoft that can also be used-- it is a premoistened
disposable towelette sealed inside a foil container.

If the package hasn't been opened, I think it would be ok. But don't sue me!

After all, how much can fresh saline solution cost.

I believe that there is a museum in France that still has one of Pasteur's
experiments on display. It has a liquid nutrient broth exposed to the
atmosphere through a serpentine glass tube. Apparently, bacteria have not
managed to work their way into the bulk broth to spoil it.

Bill,

I believe you've been here long enough to know that I'm a fan of FULL,
ACCURATE information.

As of last year, it was three VT shootings PER DAY

As of this year, it seems to be about one VT shooting PER DAY.

Thanks.

33 with the shooter himself.

I'm counting ALL dead--American, Iraqi, and other.

It was over 100/day in '06. It's looking like ~30/day in early '07.
Likely much higher since our friend, Serge (the surge), joined up.

Spend some $$ on a NEW bottle of saline solution.

My question was if the old one is safe.

The good thing about a possible civil war there is that there will be fewer

jihadists to deal with later.

Not only does it go bad, at which point you really don't know what's in
there, but it still has the salt, which is often corrosive. I had some
rewetting drops that went bad. My eye hurt for a day. I almost tossed
the contact, thinking it was bad, but a few bucks for new drops and I
was set.
