Gee, if CoQ10 is so important, what would you
think about a company that sold a CoQ10 supplement
that didn't meet its own label claim for CoQ10?
Quoting from this web site:
http://healthcare.seekingalpha.com/article/34625
I am more worried about the product issues. Barry Minkow
said in his report that some of the products fall short
of the claims made on the labels for ingredients. This
is from Barry Minkow's report for the Usana's product
Essential Mega Antioxidant:
* Folate (as folic acid) claimed 500 pgs per serving
and only tested for 390 pgs per serving.
* Vitamin B-12 (as cyanocobalamin) fell significantly
short from the claimed 100 pgs per serving and only
tested for 63.8 pgs per serving.
* Alpha Lipoic Acid fell short by 8% from the claimed
potency on the box.
* By far the most serious and significant shortage
resulted from the mega antioxidant ingredient Coenzyme
Q-10, which scored only 14% of the "guaranteed potency." |

Well, since you're not very bright, perhaps someone needs to explain
it to you.
A compound, X, say, has been shown to be effective for some
indications or for general health. So lots of people want to sell
compound X. But compound X can be made more cheaply if you add crap or
simply don't put as much of the compound X in it as you claim to.
This does not take away from the intrinsic value for compound X. It
merely makes some of the purveyors crooks and liars.
Does that help dearie, or did the word "intrinsic" throw you for a
loop?

This is why you have to be very studious and make sure what you are
taking ACTUALLY contains everything you would like to be benefiting
from. I found that out with resveratrol. Apparently most of the
supplements out there don't actually contain measurable
resveratrol!...Good luck to everyone finding what they need/want... |

Actually, resvertrol's problem is more absorption.
Most companies are surprisingly good at purity, potency and correct
identification--but I don't trust them either.
www.consumerlab.com is at least one resource to evaluate supplements.
If we had a government that was worth more than a pile of lying,
thieving, murdering shit, we COULD have an FDA that was well-funded,
more honest and actually had larger divisions dedicated to assessing
food and dietary supplement quality.
A few years budget probably wouldn't cost more than a month or so of
the debacle in Iraq. And gosh, actually HELP people instead of
slaughter them for oil.

It's become a vicious circle. So few people trust the government now that
they won't willingly give it any power or money.

well, this is true...but if you hate the government so much, and
distrust them, do you actually want them regulating your supplements? |

No--there are alwyas a FEW people that trust the government. Big
business and corporations. They give LOTS Of money, pay for the time,
get the legislation and the rest of us are well and truly fucked.
Government now is by and for the stinking rich CEO pigs and the Wall
Street parasites. Democracy is dead.

Don't you think that it's possibly, via things such as the internet,
to reach massive amounts of people and change the way democracy is
run, or do you think we are hopelessly lost? I mean, I have to think
that good things are still possible. |

I'm not sure. In the US, it may be too late. We are basically lost.

Quite probably.
And yes, dietary supplements ARE already regulated. DSHEA prohibits
claims based on any type of treatment, which is ludicrous.
Meantime, the KIND of regulation I would like includes identity,
potency and purity issues. And I think as the government supposedly
serves the will and needs of the citizens (oh, ha-ha), they could and
should be funded to do evaluations of food, drugs and supplements to
assure quality.
So we aren't harmed by crap from second rate shit houses in China, for
example. Of course, at least there, when they catch a "responsible"
official, they execute his ass.
Bush has always liked that. Perhaps he and Cheney should be up on
capital charges as well for all the people they've murdered as well as
all their corruption.
