I've had thigh pain on the outside of my left thigh for about a
decade. It could be from wearing a "pack" on my belt to keep the
things I normally keep in my suit pockets when I'm not wearing a suit.

It normally shows up when I'm standing for too long. But for about
two weeks now it gets numb (like when my foot falls asleep) and can
now happen when I'm sitting. Before this I just attributed it to being
tired.

I also have gout. For the past month I've also had back pains.
I've also gained weight and my clothes don't fit. (I gained 80# since
my mom died in 1998.) My late dad had sciatica.

Much obliged for any Dx clues.

You should make a doctors appointment as soon as possible as the
numbness could be caused by a narrowing of an artery. With your
additional weight and your positional numbness that is a distinct
possiblity. While it may not be that, it is better to be safe than
sorry.

Hope that helps....

Well, you already recognize possible root problems - weight gain and
standing for long periods. A lot of back and other functional problems
come from being out of shape and/or overweight. Belly muscles help
support all of you, including your back. In poor shape, they cannot do
that. Standing for long periods aggravates it more - this can cause
muscles to press on nerves and without organic spinal problems.
Sciatica is a symptom , just a pain syndrome, not a diagnosis.

What is your age, height, weight? Occupation? Discomfort affected by
exercise? One reply mentions circulatory problems. A good physical is
always in order, and be ready for the doc to address weight. It is
interesting that you trace your weight gain to the time of your mom's
death. If loneliness or neglect are part of the problem, seek help for
it from a suitable source. If you are badly out of shape, you should
see a doc before beginning serious exercise. Easy-going swimming or
biking are much less stressful than running and don't beat on your joints.

Many thanks.. it's better but not gone..

Meralgia Paresthetica ("tool" belt) seems likeliest..

There is no visible discoloration or shape change, though it feels
stiff as a steel cable, like from a cramp.. it feels like a "slow" cramp

Camphor doesn't seem to effect.. in back or neck, I feel the cold, not here..
