It has been about 5 years since I used Maple much in my work.
I am trying to learn how to use it again with version 9.5
The last version I was conversant with is version 6.

If I have the following equation:

CMetal = (MH20*CH20*(Tf-Tc)+Mcal*Ccal*(Tf-Tc))/MMetal/(Th-Tf)
and I know every variable but Tf, how would I go about solving for
it.

Basically, solve(equation, variable)

Quote:
solve(CMetal = (MH20*CH20*(Tf-Tc)+Mcal*Ccal*(Tf-Tc))/MMetal/(Th-Tf), Tf);
CMetal MMetal Th + Tc MH20 CH20 + Tc Mcal Ccal

----------------------------------------------
CMetal MMetal + MH20 CH20 + Mcal Ccal

So, are you abandoning HP calculators? ;)

use solve

Quote:
eq:= CMetal = (MH20*CH20*(Tf-Tc)+Mcal*Ccal*(Tf-Tc))/MMetal/(Th-Tf);

MH20 CH20 (Tf - Tc) + Mcal Ccal (Tf - Tc)
eq := CMetal = -----------------------------------------
MMetal (Th - Tf)

Quote:
solve(eq,Tf);

CMetal MMetal Th + Tc MH20 CH20 + Tc Mcal Ccal
----------------------------------------------
CMetal MMetal + MH20 CH20 + Mcal Ccal

No, I just got the Maple bug again. Haven't heard from you in a while.
How do you like yor job a Wolfram?
I hope to get to Baltimore this summer, and I hope to vist the Physics
Dept at TSU, where I started out in Physics.
BTW did you know that Mary Lu Larsen retired?

My job is going pretty good, we just released Mathematica 6.

TSU is now called TU (Towson University) Smile Yep, Dr. Larsen retired quite a while back, I believe it's been a year or two. I believe Dr. Krause, Dr. Chen and other professors are still there though. Hope you have a good time in Baltimore! Whenever I visited the Physics dept I always felt like I was a ghost haunting the building :)

Well, I do not know precisely the reasons you started using
Maple again after 5 years.

If you are looking for maximal computational powers amongst
CASs, you'd better use Mathematica 6.
