I need to do some participant observation in a student bar, to observe
student drinking behaviour for a project. What sort of thins should I
be looking for? Should I make notes about how much people are
drinking, about the way groups organises pirchasing drinks fro the
group? Should I merely note down as much as possible and filter it
later. When replying, please keep in mind that I will only be
observing for a short period of time (one session).

is this for an applied or urban anthropology course? have you any idea how many
times it's been done or attempted? ;-)
ask your instructor for some help before proceeding any further. |

I can't seem to find a previous report. Can you suggest any studies.
I'm aware it's not original, which was why I was hoping there might be
something previous to guide me. |

It would help if you had a clear hypothesis to test... that would then
guide you in terms of what you need to observe. |
