Dear All,
Expectations are written with square brackets: E[A]
Variances are written with curved brackets: Var(A)
Covariances are written with curved brackets: Cov(A,B)
Is there is single place consistent notation is given and what
is the rationale for the different bracket choices.

This notation is not "standard", but is SOMETIMES used
in an attempt to avoid confusion.
I have to say I have never seen this used. Often there is a specific
rule for embedding brackets of various kinds ... [{(, and whatever
ends up last, depending on the complexity of the expression, is what
appears after the E, Var or Cov "operator".
