Hello,
I am interested in near-infrared "light" (specifically 700-1000nm). I
recently read that near-infrared light can pass through the skin (at
least the first few millimeters of the skin). Apparently they are
using this for some medical procedure, I believe it was a sort of
imaging technique. Very interesting.
I am curious how much light in this range (700-1000nm) is contained in
the sunlight outside after it has passed through the atmosphere? What
about emitted from a warm object (like an iron)?
Is this a range of light which is very prevalent in our everyday lives
and is regularly penetrating the first few millimeters of our skin? Or
are they using much stronger forms of this in medical procedures to get
penetration like that?
