I have a quick question maybe someone can help me with. I've had
ongoing treatment w/a root canal for a while now. It originally started
back in December. This is my first Root Canal so i may be just confused
to the procedure. But believe me when i say i am confused.
Originally i saw the Dentist because of toothache, who said he "opened
the tooth" - this relieved pain i was having at the time. He then told
me it needed a root canal and referred me to a Endo.
I had one more visit with the Dentist in between to review i guess if i
was still doing ok.
I then went to the Endo (very nice guy) who did the Root Canal and told
me go back to the dentist obviously for the crown (he made it sound
like i was almost done so i was relieved).
I went back to the Dentist who took an impression. He gave me a
temporary "tin can" which was extremely uncomfortable. I may have
misheard him but i could have sworn he said come back next week for the
crown.
So today was visit number 5. He asked the receptionist to check on the
status of my case with "the lab". He then took off the "tin cup" temp.
Took more impressions. He gave me a new temp crown (which is made of
plastic so at least is more comfortable). He gave me a referal back to
the Endo for what looks like a "post space". I was somewhat confused as
to what steps followed, i tried asking the Dentist but he had a backlog
of patients and dissapeared with another patient before i got a solid
answer. I was also confused as to why we took a second set of
impressions if seemingly nothing more was done to the tooth from the
first set of impressions.
So I have made the appt with the Endo, but when i called for the appt
it sounded like the Endo office was confused as to why i was coming
back. I got the impression from them that they already thought they
were done with everything that needed to be done. I told them what the
Dentist told me and asked them if they could call the Dentist for
clarification (hopefully they will). Regardless i got the apt (another
week with this annoying thing in my mouth).
So anyway, i guess what i am asking is... Can someone tell me if this
is normal procedure? It looks like i will be 7+ visits deep easily
before i am done. Why are a second set of impressionss needed, i am
also assuming its the 2nd set they make the crown from? If so, why even
take the first set and send them off to a lab? Can i expect that when i
go back to the Dentist (after the latest endo visit) that my crown will
be ready? If so, can that usually be done in one visit?
Needless to say, i wont mention what this is costing me, plus the time
of work. If only someone had told me upfront about all this i would
have gladly had the tooth pulled... but i had always heard root canals
were fairly simple procedures...am i just unlucky?
TIA for any answers. |
