I have some broken flush 8-32 studs in possibly inconel. The studs are
aircraft turbine blade superalloy. I want to tig a ball on the studs to grip
onto to try to unscrew them. Filler?

Not quite as simple as that. With thread edm you would have the problem of

timing the thread or the start or lead. Edm'ing the center out then picking
the rest out, maybe. I believe the pieces are seized together though.

Buy some replacement studs and grind down to make a fitting and then TIG
or MIG it on.

Inconel 625 would work, but my favorite would be Hastelloy W.

Tap busters will do the job nicely. A form of EDM

I should have been clearer on the "stud". The part is a gripper on a hot

tensile mach. The stud is a broken test bar of superalloy sample. It's the
female threaded piece we're trying to save.

Ernie, I already tried 308 ss before reading your reply. The 308ss filler
made a bead that held very well. The broken superalloy is just to seized to
move. While we are on the subject, what filler would you rec. for tap
removal? I've used 308 with mixed results. About 50% success rate.

I use Inconels and hastelloys for these jobs because they have a lower
melting point than most steels, but are much stronger than most steels
once cooled.
