All,
I just moved, and found that I have dupes of some books, and a few that
I no longer want/need. The books are free -- you just pay for the
shipping. (How that'll work, I don't know, but we'll figure it out.)
Here's what I have:
S.I. Hayakawa: *Language in thought and action* (1949)
Т.Ф. Иванова, Т.А. Черкасова: *Русская речь в эфире* (2000)
Duden #4: *Die Grammatik* (1998)
P. Kratochvil: *The Chinese language today* (?)
All but the last one are in good to excellent condition -- the Duden and
the Русская речь are pretty much pristine (because they were the
dupes...).
More may come to light over time, but these four are for sure. First
come, first served, so to speak.
Regards,
Keith |

good luck unloading that one ... (every usedbook store in NY and Chicago
has multiple copies)
Quote: Т.Ф. Иxаноxа, Т.А. Черкасоxа: *Русская речь x эфире* (2000)
Duden #4: *Die Grammatik* (1998)
P. Kratochvil: *The Chinese language today* (?)
1968; published at 15/-. I seem to have bought it at Blackwell's
(secondhand, O.P.) in Oxford (in 1992) for ё4.50.

That's where I bought it years ago, albeit in DC.

I acquired mine from a university library (don't remember which one)
booksale back in the 80's. Pretty much useless, but it might be of
interest to someone tracing the history of Chinese linguistic
scholarship.

It was frequently recommended as an excellent introduction -- and it's
in a series (in the US, anyway) with equally commendable volumes on
Arabic (by Mary Catherine Bateson[!, the anthropologist, daughter of
Gregory Bateson and Margaret Mead]) and Bengali.
