at best. In the case of property of which deeds have been recorded
for centuries, what happened regarding those alive before those
centuries has no relevance to anyone alive today. If you want to
it _is_ relevant today. that is precisely the point.
if it isn't, then why don't the landowners just give away the land?
It does sort of undermine Israel's claim on Palestine too.

Not really. Although thair silly nonsense claim that it's there's
because some hypothetical deity thousands of years ago gave it to
their hypothetical ansestors is certialy undermined, the fact remains
that there was no "Palestine" from whom it was hypothetically taken,
their claim is no better than Israels. So the answer to who owns the
west bank and Gaza is similar to who owns Texas. Those who lost it
don't it own it. The dictators who once infected it lost it to those
who took it from them. After that the chain of ownership led to the
current owners.
Perhaps you'd like to return Israel to the Canaanites, Texas to the
Aztecs, and England to the Neanderthals? :)

Well, I dont think the 'there was no 'Palestine' argument is worth much
either. What name was appended to the area in question at whatever period
under discussion is a moot point, in my view. The area itself has remained
in the same place, the different owners having chosen to name it according
to their own whims.
I do find it interesting that a 'statute of limitation' does seem to be
required, a cleansing of sins committed in the past acquisition of
'property' thus leaving the present day property relations sufficiently
untainted to allow the purity of the free-market to then operate
uncontaminated by accusations of theft and such.
It is no surprise that those most in favor of such limitation would turn out
to be those who have already got it and those who dont hold a less sanguine
or forgiving attitude.

Why don't you give away what you own?

Because unlike you, he is not lying about it being irrelevant.
