"U.S. pension deficits seen at $129B
Report says that shortfalls at Fortune 100 companies will be 65% higher
than prior year by December.
November 10, 2005: 6:41 AM EST
LONDON (Reuters) - Pension deficits in major U.S. companies are
expected to rise to $129 billion by December, up 65 percent from last
year, unless markets rise or companies pump in additional funds, a
report said Thursday.
U.S. pension deficits are likely to widen without corrective company
action or market improvements, Aon Consulting said, taking its data
from firms in the Fortune 100. . ."
Retirement is supposed to be a 3-legged stool; Retirement Savings (such
as 401Ks), Pensions and Social Security. Pension prospects aren't
looking all that great for a lot of Americans and the stock market
hasn't been doing real well for a long time. Then if you subtract
Social Security, what do you wind up with?
You wind up with a job as a Walmart greeter or a McDonald's cashier at
the age of 65 which is just what Bush had in mind.

Yeah, I feel a lot better that Congress has stolen it long before he came
into office.
(I didn't bother to snip the nonsensical story below because there might
still be people out there that believe you will still have a Social Security
income at retirment because Bush was not allowed to make changes in the
current plan...if this helps you then please continue to believe)

Bush truly tried to make some needed changes to Social Security. His
propositions were timid, but certainly in the right direction.
Unfortunately, he was opposed by those who are afraid of change and who
didn't bother to see beyond their tiny world. Their shortsightedness
will come back to haunt our children and grandchildren, unfortunately. |
