After a string of failures, from the Shuttle Challenger disaster in
1986, and the Columbia disaster more recently, it is very refreshing to
see the unmanned Spirit rover succeed. Of course, it looks like
unmanned flights are the wave of the future, for now. First we send the
machines, they then pave the way for us humans. It makes infinitely
more sense, since the mechanical probes are so much cheaper, and they
also involve so much less risk.

This is a history in the making. We now have the capability to look at
distant planets to benefit future generations. I commend our NASA
Scientists and Engineers for their dedication, persistence and Scietific
curiosity. I just have some basic concerns of whether our faltering
economy, under the Bush administration, can sustain the increased
spending needs and goals he has set. I also have some basic concerns
about the Bush administration's decision to militarize space. It was
John F. Kennedy who was wanted to dimilitarize space, he advocated
peaceful uses of space in order to benefit all of mankind. Bush is
making a radical departure from that direction.
