Insurgent Alliance Is Fraying In Fallujah

By Karl Vick, Washington Post Foreign Service

BAGHDAD, Oct. 12 -- Local insurgents in the city of Fallujah are turning
against the foreign fighters who have been their allies in the rebellion
that has held the U.S. military at bay in parts of Iraq Sunni Muslim
heartland, according to Fallujah residents, insurgent leaders and Iraqi and
U.S. officials.

Relations are deteriorating as local fighters negotiate to avoid a U.S.-led
military offensive against Fallujah, while foreign fighters press to attack
Americans and their Iraqi supporters. The disputes have spilled over into
harsh words and sporadic violence, with Fallujans killing at least five
foreign Arabs in recent weeks, according to witnesses.

"If the Arabs will not leave willingly, we will make them leave by force,"
said Jamal Adnan, a taxi driver who left his house in Fallujah's Shurta
neighborhood a month ago after the house next door was bombed by U.S.
aircraft targeting foreign insurgents.

Good for Fallujah and Iraq, but I'm not as sure it's good for the U.S.,
especially since some of "the Arabs" are presumably Saudis. Somehow I'm not
much comforted by last month's assurances from our officials that tighter
"anti-terrorist checks at the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia have blocked more
than 12 visa applicants in the last year..."

Oh sure, now you want them out, Iraqiman...when your house is under risk of
destruction. All that bloodshed, those sawed off heads and charred bodies in
your name just didn't do it for you, huh? <rolleyes>

They should round up the captured insurgents and the bodies of the dead
ones, dig a big hole and throw the living a dead in together, add plenty
of diesel and ignite. Video the whole thing ensuring there is a good
quality sound setup to capture the tortured screams of people as they
burn and get plenty of close up gore shots as these seems to play well
to a Muslim audience. Release the video to the usual outlets and watch
insurgent activity come to a grinding halt.

He might've wanted them out for the reasons you mention even before the
house next door was bombed, but there's no denying that might've given him
additional incentive.
