17 May 2004 - Zarqawi's Al Tawhid and Jihad Group Merges with Abu Dagana's
Salafi Group
An announcement today on several Arabic language forums proclaims the merger
of two of groups of Islamic militants in Iraq, the Salafi Group under Abu
Dagana, and the Tawhid and Jihad Group under Abu Mus'ab Al Zarqawy.
Zarqawi's group has claimed responsibility for a spurt of violent acts
recently, including the execution of American contractor Nick Berg, the
attempted maritime attack on the oil distribution facility in the waters off
of Basra, and the attempted chemical weapons attack on Amman, Jordan.
The Salafi group is the primary fighting unit in the Fallujah area.
According to the announcement, the newly combined units will be udner the
command of Abu Mus'ab Al Zarqawi. The postings state that the merger takes
place immediately.
We have been unable to independently corroborate this report |

"Salafi" is just a thinly veiled euphemeism for Wahhabi!
