No way did he actually run the covens. He may have started them. As
for the man himself, legend has it that he killed a lot of people with
his evil eye who crossed him. Strangers from out of town who insulted
him all died.

Big Names who were supposed to have visited him and (IIRC) Crowley being
somewhere else entirely at the time he was supposed to have been sitting at
GP's feet.

What is your opinion of old man Pickingill? Do you think he could fry
troll brains here if he was alive?

ROTFL!

Ren wants you to believe that nonsense because he wants you to
believe that people can do things like that....that _he_ can
do things like that.

This is one of the ways that identify phony magicians: They
all work very hard at convincing you that they can harm you
with their alleged magickal powers.

The truth is that anyone advanced enough to do that wouldn't
do that because they have long since lost the basic paranoia
that gives birth to the desire to do such things. They know
they make their own reality and that no one can harm them.

What, thinly sliced and sauteed in beurre noir? Nope Wink Rural 'cunning men'
weren't noted for their cuisinary skills. In fact, Pickingill wasn't noted
for anything much until he got 'legendized' later on.

Oh my. We are supposed to accept the opinion of an anonymous poster on
the internet as some kind of proof? Is ren even sane?

If you want to do your own research about Pickingill and his legend, there's
plenty available. Of course, you could always argue that the material was
collected and published by 'anonymous posters on the internet', but I hardly
think that people like Ronald Hutton, Adrian Bott or Paul Hume come into
that category *shrug*.
