Adaptation is fine with me. Modernity works away on its own
undermining traditional cultures so as a 'Druid', a word from a
'celtic' language supposedly indicating the leaders of a certain
culture, IMO your first concern should be those cultures and its a
dodgy thing to avoid any links with the cultures in question and to
use the label for something that could as easily be described as
shamanism or witchcraft.

Like you mentioned with Beltaine there are some things common to all
native religions, or just its folklore, and that is represented in
identified motifs. The same is true within the body of lit stretching
across a 1000 years in Ireland. The narratives in 99% of Irish myths
are absolute waffle I agree but the recurring underlying motifs across
Irish myths are valuable. As a testement to how much the myths were
altered, sometimes they are only present in fragments across similar
styles of myths, but they are the things that are part of the original
myths and convey the native understanding.

Now you do need to understand I'm not claiming it's all made up. I'm
merely saying it's been filtered/altered/censored to death by members of a
competing belief system who were out to take over and destroy the old
"faith" without alienating the local populace all too much.

To understand some of the themes behind our own Pagan past, we
