Down thru the centuries,
and down thru the millennia,
it has always been just a remnant
that Christ has saved.
And it is no different today.
But the identification of the remnant
will be a quite a surprise to many.
See my website for several articles
dealing with the current remnant,
now listed toward the end

Islam sets down clear guidelines as to when war is ethically right and
how such a war should be conducted.

War is decreed in Islam in self defense to defend Islam (rather than
to spread it); Islam also allows war if an Islamic state comes under
attack, or if another state is oppressing its own Muslims.

This indicates that war in Islam is only a mean to ward off aggression
and not a mean to impose Islam as a religion; as some may claim.
Referring to this, Allah Almighty says:

“To those against whom war is made, permission is given (to fight),
because they are wronged; and verily God is most powerful for their
aid.” Qur’an (22:39)

Also the Holly Qur'an has stressed the fact that war is launched only
to fight for noble motives without seeking any earthly reward: Allah
says:

"Those who readily fight in the cause of God are those who forsake
this world in favor of the Hereafter. Whoever fights in the cause of
God, then gets killed, or attains victory, we will surely grant him a
great recompense." Qur'an (4:74)

War in Islam should be conducted in a disciplined way according to the
principles of Allah’s justice; so as to avoid injuring non-combatants
with the minimum necessary force without anger and with humane
treatments towards prisoners of war because Islam is in favor of peace
and against violence.

The instructions of Islam are to be observed in war and in peace
times. Islamic jurisprudence maintains that whatever is prohibited
during peace is also prohibited during war. War is no excuse to be
lenient with misbehaving troops.

Fighting should be directed only against fighting troops and not to
non- fighting persons, for Islam bans the killing of non-combatants or
of a combatant who has been captured. Also Allah has forbidden Muslim
from attacking wounded soldiers (unless the wounded person is still
fighting).

Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) view of non-combatants is shown by a hadith
in which he (PBUH) saw a woman killed in the battlefield and this was
denounced by the Prophet saying "She did not fight".

Islam adopts an attitude of mercy and caring for the captured enemy,
it prohibits any form of abuse or torture whether physical or sexual
against the enemy.

Previously, it was the custom for the captive to work for his food or
get it through private means then the Qur’an made it a charity to feed
the prisoners and the Prophet (PBUH) urged his Companions to be good
to the captives.

When the Jewish tribe of Bani Qurayzah was in the seizure of the
Muslims, loads of dates were regularly carried to them, with the
Prophet's instructions to ****ter them from the summer sun and to
provide them with water to drink.

According to Islamic law, the captive belongs to the state and not to
his captor. The ruler has the ultimate option, as he sees fit, of
granting freedom or doing that after taking a ransom. An acceptable
ransom that was quite often carried out was to teach ten Muslim
children to read and write. Sometimes captives were exchanged for
Muslim captives in enemy hands.

Captives were set free upon their word of honor not to fight again,
and they should not be ordered by their governments to go to battle
again. If they break their promise, they might be sentenced to death
if they are captured again.

Umarna Ibn-Athal was set free upon his promise not to provide the
enemy with food. This gentle treatment touched the man’s heart and was
then embraced Islam saying to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH):

"There was a time when your face was the most hated face to me, and
there comes a day when it is the most loved.”

Also Islam has emphatically prohibited treachery by taking the enemy
by surprise attack. Recent examples of signing a pact or treaty with a
nation as camouflage to hidden intent to attack it are quite contrary
to Islam. If Muslims sense the treachery of any enemy with whom they
had a treaty, they should cancel with him that treaty before embarking
on war again.

Islamic war was one of liberation and not of compulsion. Prophet
Mohammad (PBUH) and his Companions, May Allah be pleased with them,
never fought to force people to accept Islam. On the contrary, war was
launched to save Muslims living in countries ruled by Non-Muslims, so
as to grant them freedom to practice the religion they’ve chosen. Had
people entered Islam because of force, they would have gone back to
their roots.

It is worth mentioning that when Muslims fought the Romans in Egypt,
the Egyptian Copts sided with and helped Muslims against the Romans
who were Christians like them. This was because Christian Egypt was
suffering religious oppression by the Christian Romans to compel them
to adopt their religious beliefs.

“Treat the prisoners of war kindly.”

No, this is not a statement in the Geneva Conventions summarizing the
rights of POWs. This is the Prophet Muhammad’s instruction to his
Companions more than 1400 years ago. Islam has set down rules for
warfare, detailing when Muslims should fight, whom they should fight,
and how they should fight.

In the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the Muslims set an unprecedented
standard for the ethics of dealing with captured enemies. They treated
prisoners of war in a manner that has yet to be imitated in history.
Islam set the basic rule that the captive is protected by his
captivity and the wounded by his injury.

Islam instructs Muslims either to free captives who cannot offer
ransom (in the form of
money or an *****alent number of Muslim captives) or to ransom
prisoners of war.

Prisoners of war are not to be humiliated or degraded in any way. They
have the right to their human dignity and the right to be protected
from sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. Sufficient health care
should be provided for prisoners who need it. Proper food and clothing
should also be provided, as well as sanitary facilities. The Prophet
also instructed his Companions to ****ter their prisoners from the
summer sun and to provide them with water to drink.

Captives are invited to learn about Islam, but they are under no
pressure whatsoever to convert. [There is no compulsion in religion
(Al-Baqarah 2:256) means that sincerity is an essential requirement of
one’s faith, so, therefore, no one can be coerced to become a Muslim
nor should anyone convert to seek some worldly benefit.
The Qur’an describes the righteous:
And they, though they hold it dear, give sustenance to the indigent,
the orphan and the captive. (Saying) we feed you for the sake of God
alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. (Al-Insan 76:8-9)

Relating how the Companions complied strictly with the Prophet’s
instructions on treating POWs, one of the prisoners of the Battle of
Badr, Huzayr ibn Humayr, said: “I was with one of the Ansari families,
after being taken as captive. Whenever they had lunch or dinner, they
used to give me preference by providing me with bread while they’d eat
only dates, in compliance with the Prophet’s order to treat prisoners
well.”

Another, Thamama ibn Athal, was taken prisoner and brought to the
Prophet, who said, “Be good to him in his captivity.” When the Prophet
went home, he asked that any food in his house be collected and sent
to Thamama.
Later, the Prophet approached him respectfully and inquired whether
Thamama could ransom himself: “What have you, Thamama?” He replied,
“Actually I have a lot going for me. If you kill me, you kill a man
whose blood will surely be avenged. If you are generous, then you are
generous to a man who knows how to be grateful. If you are after
money, then ask of me whatever amount you like.”

The Prophet left him and on the second day when he approached him,
Thamama said basically the same thing. On the third day, the Prophet
said, “Let Thamama go.”

They unbound him and let him go. He went on his way, quickly took a
bath and returned, declaring, “I bear witness that there is no God but
Allah and I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. O
Muhammad! I swear to Allah that there was no man on the face of the
Earth whom I hated more than you. Now you have become to me the
dearest of men. And I swear by Allah that there was no religion on
earth more loathsome to me than your religion, but now it is the most
beloved to me of all religions. There was no country on earth more
despised by me than your country, yet now I love it more than any
other country in the world.”

The Islamic ethics of treating prisoners of war is part of the whole
system of Islamic ethics, which places utmost importance on the
preservation of human dignity and rights. This principle extends from
the rights of the unborn child to the rights of women, the elderly,
non-Muslims living in a Muslim country, to aggressive enemies captured
as prisoners of war. Each human being has inherent value and
distinction as God’s creation.

Q. Is it justified in Islam to torture a prisoner or an accused person
for the purpose of getting information?

A. This act is totally contradictory to justice and it is unacceptable
by all means. To force an accused or a prisoner to admit to something
is not permitted in Islam, nor is it acceptable from a human point of
view. This act is only accepted by people of no faith, oppressors and
tyrants who want to convert people into slaves. All faiths condemn
this act. The history of Islam shows that the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) used to tell the criminals who came to him
voluntarily admitting their crimes, to repent and seek forgiveness
from Allah.

Torturing prisoners and the accused at the time of investigation in an
attempt to make the accused witness against his own self, are flagrant
violations of human dignity.

Therefore, it is the right of the judge to refuse all information got
under duress and force

I wouldn't bother with remnants I would focuss on a few
known facts.

Fact 1)

From the cradle to age around twenty, nothing, but nothing,
is recorded about Christ.

Why?

Easy - the myth writers of the time, in their haste to
create their own Prophet and get it established and
preaching by proxy, forgot to cover those all important
years.

The son of a god that is presented as the creator of the
universe lives for all of his most formative years in
obscurity - Lunacy.
