Goodbye, Grandmother by Kerri Connor © 2009 Wyrdwood Publications
eBook eISBN: WYRDWOOD-0018 20 pages $4.99
(U.S.) Fiction (ages 8 – 12)

This is a book which is intended to deal with a circumstance which we
must all deal with at some point, the death of a loved one. Hope, at
11 years of ages has learned much from her grandmother about life and
the religious beliefs which her family follows. She has learned her
family history, and the value of knowing that history.

What she hasn’t learned, however, is how to reconcile her love with
the loss of the loved one. She remembers the good times and doesn’t
focus on the unhappy times at the end.

She helps with the ritual which binds her grandmother’s memory, but
not her spirit, to the land which she loved. She realizes that
memories are the true measure of a person’s affect on the world, and
she vows to pass on those memories and teachings to her own children
and grandchildren.

She also realizes that it is important to focus on the future, as well
as remembering the past.

The only thing I disliked about this is that I wasn’t able to print
out a copy of the books, as I always prefer to be able to sit down
wherever I like to do my reading. But that isn’t really important,
and doesn’t affect the book at all.
